Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Born 1756 in Salzburg, Mozart was given music lessons by his father from the age
of four. He wrote his first composition when he was 5 years old which he
performed in Salzburg as a child prodigy.
The empress Maria Theresia and her family were taken by the six year old
"Wolferl" and his piano performance. In the following
years concert tours took him to Germany, France, England and Italy.
As concert-master of the archbishops’ court orchestra he fell out with the archbishop and moved to Vienna.
Here in Vienna over a period of 10 years, he created more than half of his musical work. Despite of
his artistic success as an imperial chamber musician, his debt managed to grow.
On the 5th of December 1791 Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart died completely impoverished in Vienna.
